The Player

Chad Qualls appeared in 380 games for the Astros during two stints with the ballclub. He was on the 2005 NL Pennant Winning squad as well as the 2015 club that ended the franchise playoff drought 10 years later.

The Jersey

The oft-described ‘Tequila Sunrise’ jersey is arguably the most recognized and franchise-defining uniform issue in club history. Debuting in 1975 their unique design became a staple attraction for all Dome visitors. They were also worn for the club’s first major successes as the club finally pushed their way into title contention and the playoffs in 1980, 1981, and 1986.

This ‘Turn Back The Clock’ (TBTC) design has been issued several times in recent years including 2014-2018. As only 10-15 players might typically play in a game, only about 50-75 have been game used since 2014.

The Game

Qualls wore this jersey on 7/18/15 relieving Joe Thatcher in the 8th inning in front of over 40,000 fans on a Saturday night. He dispatched Robinson Chirinos and Delino DeShields before the Astros scored 3 runs to make it a one-run game. Sadly the Stros could not overcome the early deficit to defeat the Arlington ballclub.
