Carlos Beltran 2017 Game Used Memorial Day Weekend Jersey
The Jersey
The Astros wore this Memorial Day Weekend Home White Jersey on May 27th and May 28th of the 2017 World Championship Season.
Carlos Beltran only played the Sunday game making this a one-of-a kind style for this legendary player. Many consider the simplicity of the monochromatic jersey design used in 2017 and 2018 among the most handsome holiday jerseys issued by MLB. The jersey also sports the four star patch in remembrance of the fallen service members of our Nation’s military branches. The 2017 road jersey was worn again in 2018 by the team; however, the 2017 home white was worn for this weekend only making it a true one-of-a-kind style for the Astros at the peak of their Championship season. In May 2017 Astros won AL Pitcher and Player of the Month honors on their journey to winning 60 games before the All-Star break and sending a franchise record 6 players to the Midsummer Classic.
This jersey is authenticated by MLB and was obtained directly from the Houston ball club.
The Game
On 5/28 the Astros finished a sweep of the Baltimore club in front of 35k fans. Beltran had a good game drawing a walk and scoring in the second inning and then leading off the third inning with a double off Ubaldo Jimenez.
History/Nerd Notes
This double marked his 2,656 career hit and 547th career double- tying him for 31th on the All-Time Double List with Manny Ramirez and within striking distance of A-Rod, Chipper, and Eddie Murray. Beltran would finish his career at 27th and is currently at 29th (being passed by Cano and Cabrera). He also finished second all-time in doubles for switch hitters (Pete Rose leading).
His double in this game also marked his 1,051st extra base hit (XBH). Beltran finished his career with 1,078 XBHs good for 23rd All-time (now 25th being passed by Beltre and Cabrera). He is second all-time among switch hitters behind only Eddie Murray (1,099).
Beltran’s spot in history likely will be secure for some time as few active players are in striking distance of his double/XBH totals. Currently, Freeman, Trout, Harper, and Arenado seem to have the best chances but none have over 400 2Bs or 700 XBHs ten or more years into their careers so they have a lot of work yet.
